Wrath of the Lich King News

WotLK
  • July's Brew of the Month - The brew of the month for July is the Stranglethorn Brew. Now, I have to say this one is definitely more interesting than those haha you farted, burped, barfed, etc. brews. When you take a swig of this brew it gives you a buff called Jungle Madness! which causes you to hallucinate for a bit and you are attacked by Angry Jungle Gnomes only you can see! Now that's funny! There is just one more brew left before the year of brews comes to a close so let's hope the Draenic Pale Ale for next month has something cool in store for us!
  • Updated 3.2 Patch Notes - Some updates and changes were made to the PTR over the past week. We have put an updated copy of the PTR Patch notes up on our blog for you to look over.
  • Exodus' World First an Exploit - We reported last week in our newsletter that US guild Exodus earned world first honors for the Alone in the Darkness achievement. They have been stripped of this accomplishment, suspended and had all rewards removed for using an exploit to earn this "mathematically impossible" title. Continue reading on our blog...
  • WoW TCG Expansion Now on Sale - The latest, and arguably the greatest expansion for the WoW Trading Card Game is now available in stores everywhere. The Fields of Honor expansion pack brings with it some really awesome in-game loot like the El Pollo Grande (quite possibly the greatest mount in all of Azerothian history), the Ogre Pinata (who wants candy?) and the way cool Path of Cenarius and since these items were activated in a previous patch you can use them the very day you get them...no waiting required! For screenshots of the new loot, check out Upper Deck's loot card preview page.
  • New Laws for Virtual Products in China - The Chinese government has passed a new law prohibiting the sale of virtual products for real world money. When we heard this we (like many others) figured it was the end of gold farming as we have always known it. However, due to an interesting little loophole it looks as though the gold farming industry will hardly be affected but legitimate games, like Free Realms which count on microtransactions for the funding and overall survival of their game will take a big hit. • Comic Corner - Time for some funnies! The first one today is brought to you by Dark Legacy Comics and is a continuance of last week's feature from them. I must say, this one had me laughing pretty good! The next feature is a series of comics from Experience Points that reminds us you never know who's behind that in-game character you're buddies with! Make sure you read parts 2, 3 and 4 for the whole experience! The third one I have for you this week comes to us from NoObz and it explains the joys of running up a crafting profession...hillarious (and true)! And last but not least is my favorite web comic, NPC coming to us this week with a couple chucklers. The first is called Time Spent which pokes fun at the way Lisa spends her "unemployed" time; the second (and my favorite) is called 17 Pound Catfish and it reminds us that everyone's definition of "normal" is very different...very funny!
  • A New Hunter Pet in 3.2 - Patch 3.2 is bringing with it all kinds of nifty things like new dungeons, new quests and many significant changes to professions and classes, but there will be something else lurking out in Storm peaks...a new Spirit Beast! That's right, my fellow hunters, we will have a cool new spirit beast to obsess over. Since I know many of you will be wandering around looking for this new pet as soon as the patch releases, here's what you need to know: 1. The new spirit beast's name is Skoll 2. Unlike the current spirit beasts this one uses the saberworg model which was introduced with Wrath 3. This mob is non-hostile and tameable when you first encounter it 4. He will wander in the Storm Peaks near Snowdrift Plains. So, good luck to all you other hunters when 3.2 releases. For a screenshot of the beast from the PTR, click here.
  • 2v2 Teams Will Still Be Around After 3.2 - When 3.2 was originally announced the 2v2 arena bracket was slated for removal from the realm of serious arena play since the newest arena gear could only be purchased by meeting the rating requirements with a 3 or 5 player team rating. Blizzard has changed their minds on this one and has reinstated the ability to purchase current season items with 2v2 ratings with a few exceptions. Players will not be able to use their 2v2 rating to purchase the current season's weapons or shoulders. 2v2 ratings will also not count towards the Gladiator title or it's associated rewards. Seems like a nice compromise that will keep the 2v2 bracket alive for a while longer.
  • Blizzard's Cataclysm - Late last week Blizzard filed the necessary trademark paperwork for "Cataclysm" to include the fields of computer games, paper-based products and online entertainment services. Since then there has been a ton of speculation about what they intend to do with it. Could it be the next expansion for WoW? We think so. If you look back through the WoW lore, the event that destroyed the Well of Eternity and created the Maelstrom (the swirly thing in the middle of the map) was referred to as "the Cataclysm". Pretty solid evidence, we think but nothing is for sure till we hear it from Blizz.
  • WoW From Your Browser? - Gaikai, a new game streaming service allows players to jump right into their favorite PC games whenever they like with no installation or hard drive space necessary. The company would like (of course) to include World of Warcraft in their PC game offerings and has begun testing out the browser version of the game. This is an awesome idea and we are excited to see it develop into a reality. We will keep you posted on the progress of the project.
  • Movie of the Week - I am adding this section starting this week because so many of you like the Comic Corner and seem to enjoy player contributed art and machinima. For my first feature in this newly added section I have chosen a movie called The Avenger created by Dtbn, a player on the EU-Netherstorm realm. Basically it is all about war and revenge, it has some great action scenes and a simple, yet decent storyline. I hope you enjoy it, I know I did.
